The hippo is perfect for its environment. It has almost no predators. It sleeps and stays cool during the day in the water. Amazingly, the crocodiles found in the same waters do not even bother the young hippos. It is thus least vulnerable in the water and the herd stays cool and sleeps in this environment. At night it takes advantage of the cool air to forage and because of its size and powerful jaws, fears no animals.
I sometimes wonder about how all of the animals of our world have found such a balance in creation. God’s hand rests upon this wondrous creation.
