Spiritual formation is something that happens throughout our lives. As adults we seek to be grounded in a variety of ways and experiences. There are many opportunities throughout the year to engage in different ways. Small Groups are great way to get involved, meet others, and share faith conversations. Groups can be short or long term commitments depending on the desire of the group. Info will be released as small groups happen.
Bible Study
Join Pastor Leta for a Bible Study on Mary Magdalene and Scripture. Wednesday night class meets from 5:45-7:00 pm and the Thursday morning class meets from 9:30-10:45 am. Both classes take place in the North Meeting Room.
Theology Pub
Meets the 4th Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar.
The Mind – Body Problem (year-long course)
Dr. Nina Azari will be teaching a class on Mondays at 2:00 pm in the North Meeting Room starting September 11th and going through May 6th, 2024.
This course will address the question of “What is the relation between our minds and our bodies?” How
does a desire for a drink of water, for example, get transformed into a bodily movement toward a glass
of water? Or, how does the excitation of brain cells in the visual cortex get translated into the
experience of seeing a red table? We will explore different philosophical, theological, and neuroscientific
theories in order to address this “problem”.
Embracing Spirituality
“Spirituality is the prayerful experience of surrendering yourself to God’s grace, mercy, and love, thereby learning to trust every part of your life to God’s direction with full expectation that you will be led.”
`Fred Castor
We are continuing the series of discussions on prayer October 15, led by Mary Hubbard. This set, Oct 15 and Oct 29, will focus on how to recognize the Spirit’s involvement in our daily lives – our conscious contact with God, using the technique of Examen.
Examen is a technique used by church fathers to help us look backward at the previous day so that we can look forward and learn how to be sensitive to the Spirit. It is related to the practice of using a gratitude journal.
Come join us Sunday, Oct 15 from 10:00-10:50 am in the North Meeting Room.
Prayer Group
We are continuing the Intercessory Prayer group and welcome new members. This group will meet from 10:45-11:45 am, after the Thursday morning Bible Study. We are inviting anyone and everyone to join us.
This is a time of meditation and quiet as well as supplication to our Father in Heaven for the needs of our church, the world and ourselves. We follow the stpes of prayer illustrated by the acrostic, ACTS. Adoration; Confession; Thanksgiving; and Supplication.
It is certainly okay to join us even if you want simply to sit, be quiet and listen. Prayer is a matter of the heart.
