CURRENT CALLS FOR ADVOCACY & SUPPORT:
Lutheran Family Services:  We had several (refugee) families arrive in December and January who rely on support from our office while they make the transition to form their new lives and begin working in the United States, who are now facing the loss of financial support for housing and basic needs. If you are interested in making a financial donation to our office, please do so by donating online HERE
The most effective way to contact your legislators is by phone. Search for “5 Calls: Contact Your Congress” in your app store and then download the app. When you set up the app, it will automatically connect you to your legislators, help you to find the issues you care about, and give you a sample script for your call.
Here are some current issues that are at the forefront:
  • Stop the Dismantling of USAID Eighty-three percent of all U.S. aid contracts have been officially cancelled. Without lifesaving aid, tens of millions of people will be at risk of losing access to clean water, sanitation, nutrition assistance, and medicine. Children are especially vulnerable unless these programs are restored and protected. In-depth article in the NYT:  Kristof Article
  • Reject Cuts to Medicare and Medicaid The recent C.R. passed by both houses of Congress includes drastic cuts to Medicaid, the healthcare lifeline for more than 70 million Americans.
